• Martel MDE has no moving parts, which means nothing can break down. No hard drives, no spinning DVD burners. Testing has shown that this is the only way to have a digital video system last more than 6 months in a police car. Hard drives will fail due to climate and motion. DVD burners will fail due to climate and writing to disk errors.

• Pre-Alarm Recording: Captures up to 3 minutes of video prior to record activation. Documents probable cause and eliminates racial profiling claims. (Definition of Pre-event reording: when the digital video recorder is on, it is constantly capturing images and putting them in temporary memory. When a trigger is received, the unit starts recording to the compact flash card, but it can also grab images captured before the trigger (from temporary memory) and store them. The MDE system allows the user to set that capture time for any amount up to 180 seconds.)
